Cycling Day 3
19.05.2018 - 19.05.2018
Day 3
Another big day. Usual continental breakfast. We pinched fruit and boiled eggs for our cycling trip. When the bastards in the company say that it is mostly flat, don’t believe them. It was a fair number of inclines. Thank God for the electric motor again. After a couple of hours pedalling, we stopped at this pub for a drink. We had Belgian cherry beer which brings back memories of my tie in Brussels. Very tasty but may not have been a great choice for quite a few more hours of cycling!
We stopped at the Azay le Rideau for lunch. We stopped because the girls wanted to watch the wedding. They managed that on Leonie’s iPhone. Lunch was a couple of pizzas which is pretty ordinary for France, especially all the magnificent meals we have had! One of the pizzas had a raw egg in the middle which turned us off. I had to surgically excise the egg before we could eat it. Very ordinary indeed.
For some reason, I always find it harder to cycle after lunch so the afternoon was quite difficult. After an hour, we came across this fantastic suspension bridge over the river Indre (a tributary of the Loire). By the way how does Loire get pronounced as Loo wah? Frigging French! Check out the photos of the bridge. We sat on the grass, mainly for Harry to have his baguette. Harry has decided that he needs a metre of baguette a day whilst in France. He is managing to do that too!
After, that it was about an hour to the Chateau Rochette. A long winding driveway (an incline as expected) to the magnificent Chateau. Whatever you want to say about the frogs, they do Chateaus very well. Each Chateau we have stayed in has been more magnificent that the one before. By now I am absolutely stuffed. We cycled 50 km today. Crashed in bed for an hour before predinner drinks and another terrific dinner. Asparagus, pork followed by an incredible dessert. Where are the onions! I thought the french were all about onions!
Last day of cycling tomorrow. Hooray.
