Cycling Day 2
18.05.2018 - 18.05.2018
Off at about 10 am again. This time the sun is out and it was very pleasant. We had to ride into Amboise again. I forgot to mention that straight out of the driveway is a hill. Great wake up call is that! After 4 km, we had to stop in Amboise for a coffee which didn’t take too long. On the way out, we discovered a market selling local produce. Harry went nuts with the cheese and baguettes which was much appreciated come lunchtime. I managed to bag a local big game. Check out the photo.
Halfway was at 24 km and we stopped to have lunch in one of the multitude of little villages. Thanks Harry for the cheese. Somehow, getting going seemed harder after lunch. I had to use more of the electrics. The girls did a great job of navigating and we only had a few false starts. I reckon we did about 50 km today. The approach to the Chateaux d’Artigny was its driveway which was a impossibly long incline. That was a both a physical and a psychological killer! Finally rounded the corner to see this magnificent chateau. Absolutely amazing. by now, we had locked into the usual routine of a gin and tonic and crashing for an hours sleep.
Again dinner was at the chateaux. 4 course set menu washed down with a bottle of local chateau de la wank. Another magnificent meal. Thank goodness we are doing the riding early in the holiday because if we did this at the end, I reckon we will be 10 kg heavier which will make riding even harder.
Check out the photos over the last 2 days.
I think its more of the same tomorrow. Happy times!!
