Corte Corsica
27.05.2018 - 27.05.2018
Flew into Bastia (Corsica’s airport) by 1030 hrs). Got our hire car, a Renault Scenic. Just a little SUV. I was a bit skeptical that it could take all our luggage but it was surprising spacious. Drove the hour to Corte (old capital of Corsica) which is in the hills. Harry found it a lot easier to drive the car even though the roads were quite windy as it was an automatic. Nice car though. We arrived at the Hotel Due de Padoue which was prebooked and had good reviews. It was crap. There was no one at the reception, just a couple of cleaners. It all looked very run down and there was a weird smell in the foyer. We all took one look and said NAH. We had lunch at a bistro next door so that we could sort out alternate arrangements. Lunch was spaghetti Bolognaise which was a much welcome change fro the Fromage and Creme!
In the end we found a couple of rooms at the Hotel Dominique Colonna. Although this was a couple of Km out of town, it won’t be a problems we have a car. What a great choice. Beautiful place with great rooms all looking out at the mountains with a rushing river below. Deb and I crashed for a good 2 hours before heading across the carpark to the restaurant of the other hotel. Fantastic meal of hearty food. Soup, roast lamb with apple tart for dessert. Absolutely topnotch meal.
gotta to do some (a lot really) laundry tomorrow. Aiming for a lazy day of chillin’ out
